Dubai Electricity and Water Authority inaugurates its 8th Health and Safety Week

For the eighth year in a row, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) today inaugurated its Health and Safety Week. This event, organized by DEWA, will end on Thursday 22nd December and focuses on DEWA’s employees and key stakeholders such as contractors and consultants. Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, EVP – Business Support launched the Health and Safety Week by opening a series of activities and events. Nasser Al Shaiba, VP- Business Improvement and Standards and many of DEWA’s top officials and employees also attended. Dr. Al Akraf delivered a speech on behalf of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer MD & CEO of DEWA and stressed the fact that DEWA launches this week every year to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for its employees, customers and contractors. This reflects DEWA’s interest to promote a culture of occupational safety and health for employees and customers. “I am proud to announce that DEWA has achieved 5-Star grading in the British Safety Council Star Audit since 2002 and it also gives me great pleasure to announce that DEWA has been awarded the Sword Of Honour this year, for the fourth time in a row,” said His Excellency. “Regardless of the great achievements we have made, DEWA always seeks relentlessly to improve performance in all aspects of health and safety. This is because Health and Safety is the duty and responsibility of everyone at DEWA,” His Excellency further added. DEWA dedicates special attention to the management of health and safety due to its role in protecting lives, properties and environment while setting the rules and raising awareness about preventative measures. “DEWA monitors developments in all matters related to occupational health and safety and is guided by best practices for the development of technical instructions to ensure the safety of personnel, premises and the environment, as well as the development of rules, whether in training, education and awareness. These measures can improve the performance of workers and the level of occupational safety and health to reach an advanced level in this segment,” said Dr. Al Akraf. Dr. Al Akraf explained that the week includes activities related to the consolidation of best practices in the field of health and safety in the environment of work in addition to best practices related the health and safety of DEWA’s employees; who will be urged to follow healthy programs in order to maintain good health and to conserve the environment. This event features several seminars, lectures and various medical tests at DEWA’s main office and all the customer centers. Health and Safety Week will encompass various activities and events, which will provide a great opportunity to disseminate awareness on health and safety aspects, as well as shedding light on best world practices. The Health and Safety department has lined up a number of programs and competitions for employees. To make this event even more successful, DEWA has widened the audience to include its contractors with a special competition for their staff.
