The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy meeting held its 14th meeting on Headquarters and was chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE). With His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council, Mr. Nejib Zaafrani, Secretary General and CEO of the Council and members of DSCE in attendance. After the meeting, His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: The Council has discussed, during the 14th DSCE meeting, the clean coal power technology which is currently undergoing a feasibility study”. He added, “We are assessing the potential locations of clean coal plants”. The DSCE members discussed the DSCE Strategic Direction which covered Policies & Governance, Demand and Supply Management. The members reviewed the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 road map to deploy specific initiatives and projects including the development of Dubai integrated Gas Strategy and Demand Reduction Measures implementation. A survey has been completed by DSCE on CO2 emission and usage of solar power in Dubai. The Council has developed a baseline draft on CO2 emissions to set reduction targets for the future. On Demand side Management, it has been agreed to extend the Quick Wins initiative implemented by DSCE Entities to all other Government Entities of Dubai to deploy Energy efficiency measures. His Excellency pointed out that the deployment of Energy Efficiency initiatives help to save energy, reduce CO2 and achieve savings according to a planned rollout across Dubai Emirate. The DSCE decided to participate in a project to develop a renewable energy Atlas for the UAE which will measure potential for solar and wind in the country. A delegation from DSCE visited Masdar Institute in order to assess and confirm the added-value of Energy Atlas to Dubai Inc. His Excellency concluded: “We have also reviewed some potential partnerships with International Energy Forums to take place in Dubai as a host city. In terms of our next plan, the DSCE will be participating in some major events to promote sustainability such as the Water, Energy, and Technology Exhibition in March 2012 as well as the Sustainable Arabia Conference in collaboration with United Nation Development Programme.
