HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) with senior management from Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), has received a delegation led by Alderman David Wootton, Lord Mayor of the City of London. The British delegation comprised Guy Warrington, HM Consul General of the British Embassy in Dubai, Sheriff Alderman Alan Yarrow, Billy King-Harman, Senior Programme Manager to the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Bashir Siman, UKTI Special Representative for Financial Services, Amy Burnett, Trade & Investment Adviser, UKTI, Mohammed Al Bastaki, Emirati & Government Affairs Attaché, Adil Khan, Trade & Investment Adviser, UKTI, Vandana Nair, Financial Services Coordinator, British Embassy Dubai, and representatives of major British companies. His Excellency, in his capacity as Vice Chairman of the DSCE, welcomed the delegation and stated the importance of such meetings to share expertise and knowledge in different fields. He also briefed the delegation about the initiatives of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 and discussed the latest developments in the field of energy. His Excellency also briefed the delegation about Dubai’s efforts to secure power supply for different purposes, the initiatives of power demand management, standards of green buildings, as well as resources sustainability and the quest to diversify energy sources in the short, medium and long term. His Excellency shed light on Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is Dubai’s most important project to diversify energy sources. The production capacity of this project will reach 1,000 Megawatts by 2030 by applying cutting-edge technologies. His Excellency also referred to the first phase of the park, which will apply photovoltaic (PV) technology to generate power at a capacity of 10 Megawatts. This project is in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, which aims to boost sustainable development and enhance Dubai’s global position as a hub for finance, business and tourism. This is the first project in the region that supports Dubai’s green strategy, called Green Economy for Sustainable Development. The two sides discussed securing power supply, which plays a vital role in development and economic growth, while focusing on sustainable development and conserving the environment. They also tackled the issue of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. His Excellency thanked the British delegation for their visit, which has furthered the sharing of expertise and knowledge and fostered greater collaboration between the two sides. The Lord Mayor of the City of London praised the great achievements made by Dubai’s energy sector due to its successful initiatives, programs and projects. The delegation thanked His Excellency for providing the opportunity to have an insightful overview of DEWA and improve cooperation with British companies.
