Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commenced an integrated hydro-geological study to determine groundwater basins in Dubai. The new projects are part of DEWA’s strategic plan to enhance the reliability and efficiency of its water networks, and expand water reservoirs and flow to meet the growing demand for water in the Emirate. The project aims to provide a reliable water infrastructure to support the growth of Dubai, and support its position as a global hub for trade, finance and tourism. “The integrated hydro-geological study aims to determine the location of groundwater basins and re-inject them with surplus drinking water to store and re-pump it to our water networks to meet emergency needs. This will increase efficiency and reliability, and increase water supplies to meet the growing demand for water across Dubai, and promote sustainable development in the Emirate,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. “The consultant who is in-charge of the study has outstanding experience in the field of groundwater basins in the region and the world. The study is expected to be completed within nine months,” concluded Al Tayer.
