Dubai Supreme Council of Energy reviews latest updates of ‘Energy Service Company’

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy, has chaired the Supreme Council’s 24th regular meeting held at its headquarters. The meeting was attended by HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Council, and members, including Abdullah Kalban, CEO of Dubai Aluminium Company (DUBAL), Saeed Khoory, CEO of ENOC, Abdullah Abdel Kareem, Director General of the Department of Oil Affairs, Waleed Salman, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee, Jeff Severin, GM of Dubai Petroleum Establishment and representatives from DUSUP. The meeting discussed several aspects including energy efficiency and management, and regulations related to the Energy Service Company (ESCO). “During the meeting, the Council members reviewed the strategy of energy demand management, and decided to set up a specialised committee to supervise the adoption and implementation of projects and initiatives introduced by energy demand management. Headed by Al Muhairbi, the committee comprises representatives of from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the Regulation and Supervision Bureau for Electricity and Water in Dubai, Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Road and Transportation Authority (RTA), and Dubai Municipality, in addition to a representative from the Emirates Central Cooling system Corp,” said Al Tayer. “The representatives of the Regulation and Supervision Bureau for Electricity and Water in Dubai presented the latest updates on regulations regarding ESCO, which represents a mechanism to build markets for energy sector services, and carry on with rehabilitation and restoration projects for old buildings in the Emirate. This in turn will help enhance efficiency in water and electricity consumption and provide exceptional investment opportunities. The Council is currently developing a number of standards required for the initiative, including regulations, finance, programmes and action plans. DEWA will supervise the project under the Supreme Council of Energy,” concluded Al Tayer.
