Dubai Supreme Council of Energy discusses achievements during 2013

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, has launched a new dedicated website for smartphone users and oversaw the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon) between Dubai Municipality and Empower respectively at the 26th meeting of the Supreme Council of Energy today at its headquarters. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman, HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairabi, Secretary General, and members of the council including Abdullah Kalban, CEO of Dubal, Saeed Khoory, Chief Executive Officer of ENOC, Abdullah Karim, GM of Dubai Petroleum, Waleed Salman, Chairman of Dubai Carbon, and Jeff Severin, GM of Dubai Petroleum, and representatives from the Dubai Supply Authority, attended the meeting. The participants discussed various topics including the achievements of the Supreme Council of Energy and its affiliated bodies during 2013. In the presence of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Al Tayer, and Al Muhairabi, Dubai Carbon signed two MoUs with Dubai Municipality and Empower. As per the MoUs, Dubai Municipality and Empower will works to reduce carbon emissions in its buildings and facilities thus reducing their carbon footprint. This is in line with the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to consolidate the foundations of sustainable development by facilitating and supporting various initiatives that promote green technology to increase energy efficiency, promote conservation of natural resources, and reduce carbon footprint. HH Sheikh Ahmed launched the new website that enables public access to the site through their smartphones. The website provides extremely fast access to information, and can be surfed using any smartphones including iPhones, BlackBerry and Android phones. “In line with the Smart Government strategy announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has launched this website dedicated to smartphones to enable users to have access to all services and information related to the energy industry in Dubai on a 24/7 basis,” said HE Al Tayer. At the meeting, the Supreme Council of Energy members reviewed an offer presented by Etihad Energy Services (a Super ESCO), and its plan to conserve energy. Abdullah Rafee, Assistant GM of Engineering and Planning at Dubai Municipality presented the Municipality’s plans to apply green building standards. “Supreme Council of Energy members reviewed the Council’s achievements during 2013 in four main areas - governance and integration in the energy sector to determine a roadmap moving forward, supply management by developing an integrated strategy for gas and energy security and alternate energy sources, a strategy for demand side management to implement eight programmes, and a framework to promote the implementation of energy projects and attract investments in clean energy in line with the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030,” said Al Muhairabi. The Council celebrated the winners of the Emirates Energy Awards during World Energy Day on 22 October.
