Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee delegation visits China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation

A delegation from the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee (DNEC) headed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee, has visited the China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation at its headquarters in Beijing. The delegation included Waleed Salman, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee, Dr. Abdulqadir Al Khayat, and Dr. Ali Shahin, Members of the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee. The two sides exchanged insights and best practices and discussed the latest research and technologies for nuclear energy that is used only the sole peaceful purpose of generating electricity. The meeting was attended by Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, EVP of Business Support & Human Resources and Ahmed Abdulla, Senior Manager of External Communications at DEWA. The visiting delegation was received by Zu Bin, President of the China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation and other officials. The visit is part of the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee’s efforts to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in using nuclear energy to produce electricity. The Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 aims to diversify the energy mix so that by 2030, Dubai’s total power output of Dubai will be generated by renewable energy (5%), nuclear and clean coal (24%) and natural gas (71%). In March 2014, Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee signed an MoU with the China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation to enhance cooperation. The signing coincided with the launch of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear energy programme for generating electricity. The delegation visited the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor plant at Tsinghua University and a number of electricity utilities that use nuclear energy. Using peaceful nuclear energy to produce electricity is one of Dubai’s long-term strategic initiatives to find alternative energy sources using the latest technologies. This will enable Dubai to effectively manage current energy resources and help support its long-term strategy to diversify resources of the national economy and achieve sustainable development for generations to come.
