Vice Chairman of Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai heads a high-level delegation to Vienna

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai, and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is heading a high-level delegation from the Supreme Council and DEWA to Vienna, Austria on a three-day visit. Al Tayer received an official invitation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai for a collaboration framework between the two organisations. He also received an invitation from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation, and Technology, to review the latest innovation in technologies and policies related to electricity-generation in Austria. HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, and Ahmed Abdulla, Senior Manager of External Communications are accompanying Al Tayer during his visit “The visit supports the UAE Vision 2021 to strengthen energy efficiency and the efforts to develop initiatives and programmes in renewable energy, sustainable development, and the environment. It also supports the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance the leading position of Dubai and its efforts to adopt green initiatives and practices, and establish the Emirate as the capital of green economy,” said Al Tayer. “The delegation will sign an MoU with UNIDO to benefit from the latest developments in sustainability, implement the best practices to promote sustainable energy in Dubai, and organise global forums and initiatives related to sustainability, in support of the World Expo 2020 in Dubai,” added Al Tayer. “There will be meetings with senior Austrian officials, particularly in economy, energy, sustainable development, and new technologies, to discuss the latest global developments, promote partnerships, and benefit from the experiences of the two countries. The visit will also help to recognise the latest innovations in energy production. It will be an opportunity to exchange knowledge and learn about the different technologies developed by Austrian companies,” added Al Tayer. The delegation will present an overview of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy, to diversify the energy mix. Renewable energy has been increased to 7% by 2020, and 15% in Dubai’s energy mix by 2030. Percentages of other energy sources such as gas, clean coal, nuclear power will also be reviewed. This will enhance the UAE and Dubai as a global leader and a successful model in energy diversification, renewable energy, and efficiency to achieve a sustainable future for all. The delegation will also highlight the promising investment opportunities and ambitious projects, in the UAE in general, and in Dubai in particular, and invite to Austrian companies to participate in WETEX 2015, which will be held next April in Dubai.
