Dubai Supreme Council of Energy reviews selection process for Emirates Energy Award candidates

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has held a meeting to review the internal processes for evaluating bids for the second Emirates Energy Awards (EEA) 2014-2015, which is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. EEA honours the best practices and efforts of organisations and individuals from the energy sector to foster a culture of excellence and sustainability. The objective of the meeting was to register and evaluate submissions by organisations, corporations, and individuals after receiving new applications from across the Middle East and North Africa early this year. The Supreme Council organised a number of press conferences and roadshows to promote the Award in Q4 of 2014 across the region. The events highlighted the Award categories, application process, and encouraged public and private organisations to participate in the Award, which is the first of its kind in the region. “The Emirates Energy Award spreads awareness in the region on the need to enhance energy efficiency, increase dependency on renewable and clean energy resources, and reduce dependency on conventional energy sources. We expect to receive more submissions by the deadline, which is 15 March 2015,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and President of EEA. “The Middle East and North Africa has many investment opportunities in renewable and solar energy. The EEA team continues to encourage organisations and individuals to apply and be part of sustainable development,” added Al Tayer. “We have reviewed all the applications submitted in 2014. We have also followed up on the internal processes to register new submissions for this year, which came as a result of the efforts made by the Supreme Council to promote the award in several countries across the region,” said HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairabi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the EEA. The Supreme Council of Energy will hold a special ceremony in Dubai to honour the winners on 22 October 2015 in conjunction with World Energy Day.
