The Advisory Committee of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has held its meeting at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) Centre in Jebel Ali. The meeting was headed by Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation (Power & Water Power) at DEWA. HE Ahmed Al Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) was also present. Committee members who attended the meeting included Yousef Jebril, Executive Vice President of Power and Water Planning at DEWA and Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Tayeb Al Awadhi, Vice President of Power & Desalination at Dubal, Mohammed Nejim from Dubai Municipality, Taher Diab, Senior Manager of Strategy and Faisal Ali Rashid, Director of Demand Side Management at the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Paul Mason from the Dubai Supply Authority, and Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive Vice President of Engineering Management at the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority. “The Advisory Committee in the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy was formed to study various energy programmes and projects in Dubai and present their recommendations. This supports the vision of our wise leadership and the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai sustainable and innovative in managing its resources,” said HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. “The Committee has studied different options to increase using district cooling systems across Dubai, particularly in new projects. They studied data and analysed costs. District-cooling systems are more environmentally-friendly and use less energy compared to traditional air conditioning systems, thus help reduce the carbon footprint,” added Al Muhairbi. “The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is currently reviewing the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 by analysing existing programmes and projects to decide the strategic direction for the coming years. This will be based on the latest developments in energy technology and prices,” concluded Al Muhairbi.
