- UNDP recognises Al Tayer as a Middle East Champion of Energy, the first person to have been given this recognition in the region - Dubai, UAE: The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) closed successfully today with a clear platform, the second Dubai Declaration, for determining the way for Dubai to become the capital of the world’s green economy in line with the goals of the UAE’s Vision 2021. During the closing ceremony, H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO, DEWA has been recognised by the UNDP as a Middle East Champion of Energy, the first person to have been given this recognition in the region, for his support and contribution in the march towards the green economy and sustainable development, where he received the award from Sayed Agha, Resident Coordinator of UN Organization, Resident Representative of UNDP in the UAE. H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO, DEWA said: “The second World Green Economy Summit has been very successful and generated many new partnerships, initiatives and projects to develop a green economy here in Dubai, across the region and worldwide. “Through the Summit, Dubai continues to demonstrate its encouragement to building a green economy and sustainable development, and we will build on the success of the first Dubai Declaration, with a renewed focus on innovative green financing and youth as key drivers of a green economy.” “Core to the second Dubai Declaration is the development of innovative financing solutions for the green economy including the introduction of a Green Fund in Dubai, to accelerate green projects and investment in the emirate of Dubai. Dubai will pursue its encouragement to the development of Public Private Partnerships, facilitating between cities, solution providers and financial institutions.” Over two days of intense plenary sessions and workshop driven discussions, World Green Economy Summit 2015 focused on five headline themes that will play a significant role in driving a green economic agenda: Commenting on World Green Economy Summit 2015, Andre Schneider, Chairman, World Climate Limited, the Summit organizer, said: We started this summit with an impressive display on how Dubai is on the move towards becoming the international capital of the green economy, but the summit has also shown that we need to massively upscale our efforts to address the challenges of climate change.
