Dubai Supreme Council of Energy organises workshop on energy efficiency in government organisations

Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has organised a workshop for government departments and organisations in Dubai, to review the energy demand side management strategy and assess its implementation in government facilities in Dubai. The workshop, organised in Shangri-La hotel, Dubai, was attended by HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Graeme Sims, Executive Director of the Regulatory & Supervisory Bureau for Electricity and Water in Dubai, Faisal Ali Rashid, Director of Demand Side Management at the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and representatives of government departments and organisations. “Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, its subsidiaries, and all government organisations in Dubai work to achieve the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030. This supports Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai sustainable and innovative in managing its resources. Government organisations have made good progress in implementing this strategy. We aim to reduce electricity and water use in government buildings by 20% by 2021, compared to 2014,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. “The Supreme Council is currently reviewing the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 by analysing existing programmes and projects to decide the strategic direction for the coming years, based on the latest developments in energy-related technologies,” added Al Tayer. “The Supreme Council of Energy follows up on implementing the retrofitting programme for government buildings. The energy demand-side management strategy has achieved positive results in terms of savings. It uses enabling mechanisms in line with international best practices and similar programmes implemented globally. We work with government organisations in Dubai using the performance indicators methodology that was designed and prepared by the Supreme Council and member organisations. This encourages government departments and organisations to contribute to achieving the vision of our wise leadership to reduce energy use as per international best practices,” said Al Muhairabi. The Demand Side Management strategy is the first of its kind in the region. It provides new opportunities for companies working in energy services, sustainability, and efficiency. The strategy has 8 programmes to manage energy demand. These include green building regulations, retrofitting of existing buildings, district cooling, wastewater reuse, laws and standards to raise efficiency, and energy-efficient street lighting
