Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seven Tides International, a Dubai-based luxury hospitality developer and holding company, to enhance cooperation between the two parties, to achieve DEWA’s three smart initiatives: Shams Dubai, Smart Applications and Grids and Green Charger.
The MoU was signed by Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at DEWA, on behalf of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Abdulla bin Sulayem, CEO of Seven Tides International, attended by Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, and representatives from both sides.
The MoU will encourage building owners to install photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity, and develop smart applications to speed up electricity connections. It also aims to guarantee fast response times for the immediate reconnection of electricity during power outages, in addition to smart consumption, using smart meters, to enhance the happiness of residents and citizens. It also aims to improve the sustainability of resources, in addition to establishing infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations.
Al Tayer observed that the MoU supports DEWA’s efforts to achieve the Smart City initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world.
“As part of our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, and as part of our efforts to establish developed infrastructure, we sign agreements and MoUs with many pioneering, specialist partners to implement our smart initiatives, which effectively contribute to supporting the sustainable development of Dubai, and to offer creative services for our customers. We continuously work to involve the right people to achieve our development goals, which fully support the UAE National Vision 2021 and Dubai Strategy 2021,” said Al Tayer.
“This MoU is part of DEWA’s intensive efforts to speed up the smart transformation of Dubai. We believe that cooperation with the private sector will speed up the implementation of our smart initiatives to enhance both the quality of life in Dubai, and environmental sustainability,” said Salman.
