This is one of several visits by educational and academic institution heads to DEWA.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed measures to enhance cooperation. DEWA provides Emirati students with full scholarships to get bachelor’s degrees in electrical or mechanical engineering at RIT. This is part of DEWA’s scholarship programme, which helps develops a UAE national workforce, in support of its strategy to enhance Emiratisation across all jobs and domains.

"In line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DEWA is contributing to help develop local talent through its Emiratisation programme. We have adopted a clear strategy in developing and training UAE nationals by providing appropriate skills as per the needs of DEWA. We are the leading government department to launch various training programmes for our citizen students wishing to complete their studies within and outside the country in various areas of energy,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“We were pleased to meet with the RIT delegation. We discussed ways to enhance cooperation between DEWA and RIT, which has a record of academic excellence, especially in energy and sustainability research. The scholarships DEWA provides to Emirati students at RIT contribute to enhancing their performance and preparing them for their future careers. This supports our strategy to enhance Emiratisation and prepare a national workforce that can take responsibility in the engineering and technical areas,” added Al Tayer.

DEWA has pledged to provide full scholarships to UAE nationals to study a Bachelor of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering at RIT Dubai. The University grant for undergraduates and graduates allow Emirati students to study mechanical and electrical engineering which furthers the objectives of the ‘UAE Vision 2021.’

“This visit is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation with different government and non-government organisations, to achieve mutual objectives. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) holds an important partnership with Dubai Silicon Oasis, in its efforts to provide companies with an ideal working environment. DEWA’s services are a major contributor towards the success of the Emirate, and the people who live in it. We greatly appreciate DEWA’s efforts towards enhancing Emirati capabilities, through the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Dubai, and providing scholarships to Emirati students enrolled with the institute. During the meeting, we also discussed ways to enhance cooperation for the future. We are pleased with the mutual interest, and look forward to further cooperating with DEWA in the future,” said Dr. Mohamed Al Mazrouei.

“RIT Dubai is a leading organisation, which specialises in technical education, and provides programmes that have been launched for the first time in the region. This adheres to the University’s goal to equip students with the competitive skills needed to enrich the UAE market. We are also committed towards educating our students across different vital fields of study, in adherence with the directives of the wise leadership, to enhance innovation and creativity. These vital fields of study will aid the students by providing them an environment that supports research in industrial and technological fields,” said Dr. Yousef Al Assaf. Al Assaf also noted that the institute has established a number of solutions to current problems that face the sector.

RIT Dubai is a part of RIT New York, which is a world-class international university in technical education. It was established in 2008 as a non-profit university. RIT Dubai provides bachelor and master degrees in business, leadership, computing and engineering. These are equivalent to the degrees offered at RIT New York. This provides additional value to the certificates awarded to students from RIT Dubai. The institute’s curriculum allows students to discover practical life through innovative scientific programmes, which aim to prepare them for the competitive market and their future careers.
