DEWA organises 10th Health and Safety Week at Dubai Festival City Mall

DEWA organises 10th Health and Safety Week at Dubai Festival City Mall

Today, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), opened the 10th Health and Safety Week, which is annually organised by DEWA. The activity was held at Dubai Festival City, and will last until December 7.  This comes in line with Dubai's strategic plans to reach the highest standards of health and safety in the society. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA opened the event, along with the attendance of DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, DEWA’s senior staff members, stakeholders, and a large number of visitors.

Throughout the week, DEWA reviews the best practices in the fields of health and safety, as well as DEWA’s initiatives, innovative services, and expert advice in this area, through innovative and interactive activities designed for all ages and levels. The week also includes lectures and workshops on the importance of following healthy lifestyles, and how to deal with emergency situations such as fire, water, or gas leakage. It also includes general guidelines on traffic safety, and first aid principles, as well as sports and cultural competitions and valuable prizes, in addition to free general check-ups for all attendees

During the week, DEWA reviewed its Sword of Honour award, which it received, in 2017, for the 10th time, from the British Safety Council. It aims to make people realise the importance of the award, as well as DEWA’s leading position worldwide, in the field of health and safety.

Al Tayer expressed his delight with the positive participation of families in the week's activities. He highlighted that they were increasingly aware of health and safety issues.

“DEWA’s vision is inspired by the wise words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, who observed: ‘The health of a human being is the most precious thing. Without it there is no life or happiness.’ We are keen to raise awareness among the community about the health and safety issues they need in their daily lives. As a socially responsible organisation, we aim to achieve the UAE Vision 2021, to become one of the best countries in the world by 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai a city of educated, cultured and healthy individuals. This supports our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility,” said Al Tayer.

DEWA was certified by the British Safety Council as an occupational health and safety training centre. DEWA is the first government department to be registered with the Council. DEWA employees and strategic partners who undergo the training will be awarded with credit certificates in occupational health and safety from the British Safety Council.

“Through this activity, we aim to inform stakeholders and visitors, about DEWA’s latest initiatives and efforts in the field of health and safety. DEWA operates to the highest international standards of occupational health and safety, within the strategy of DEWA’s integrated management system. This includes compliance with all legislative requirements for raising awareness, prevention of injuries, diseases and accidents, sustainable management of natural resources, management of waste disposal, and observance of quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements in design, construction, operation, and maintenance,” added Al Tayer.

“We aim to make this event an innovative platform, which targets all members of society, to raise awareness among children and youth, about health and safety issues at homes, organisations, and beyond. It also aims to address potential risks, to create a safe and sustainable future for all,” concluded Al Tayer.

“DEWA’s security and safety standards have exceeded 98%. This is one of the highest percentages reached in the international community. DEWA has also achieved a 0% accident rate, with no environmental violations. DEWA remains fully committed to providing a healthy, happy, and safe work environment to all its employees, customers, and stakeholders. DEWA received several international awards, including the Sword of Honour award, in 2017, for the 10th time,” concluded Al Tayer.
