GITEX 2018

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, has visited the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) stand at GITEX Technology Week 2018. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, welcomed His Highness at the stand and showed him DEWA’s key innovative projects and digital initiatives to provide quality services to the people of Dubai.

DEWA is participating in GITEX Technology Week 2018 at its stands at S2-D1 and in the Smart Dubai Government pavilion, to present its key initiatives that use Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). These include a model of its Future Centre for Customer Happiness with its smart self-service booths that make it easier for customers to do their transactions, Tayseer smart bill payment, and remote support through live chat using robots. Services also include the High Water Usage Alert initiative, under Green Dubai, to help customers discover possible leaks in water connections after their meters. The system sends instant notifications to the customer if there are any unusual increases in consumption.

DEWA is also showing DEWA Store, which it launched on its smart app to provide exclusive offers and discounts to DEWA’s customers, in cooperation with a number of public and private sector companies. It is also showing Rammas, its virtual employee that answers customers’ enquiries in Arabic and English on DEWA’s website, smart app, Facebook page, Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. The stand also displays Microsoft HoloLens, which DEWA uses to enhance its operations, accelerate innovation, and monitor and evaluate maintenance operations among other services.

DEWA is also showing the Ebtikari platform, which encourages inventors and innovators from all over the world to send their innovations and ideas. DEWA’s Afkari portal allows DEWA’s staff to present their innovative ideas and vote on the best ideas, similar to social media sites. DEWA is the first organisation in the UAE to use HYPE Software for this platform.

DEWA is also demonstrating its MORO Data Hub. This is a world-class data centre that offers data centre services and managed business solutions to public and private companies in UAE and the region. The Inventors’ Corner displays a number of inventions and innovations by DEWA’s employees. These include the CCTV cars, which are remotely controlled cars with cameras attached to them, the smart helmet, smart gloves and smart vest, and other tools that support field operations of DEWA’s engineers; as well as the smart warning tape, which is used to protect infrastructure from damage.

“DEWA’s takes part every year in GITEX, the largest exhibition of its kind in the region, which supports our efforts to show our innovative programmes, projects, and initiatives that embody the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. Our participation also reflects our efforts to consolidate Dubai’s position as a leading hub for building the future, and testing disruptive solutions and technologies to achieve the government’s plans and strategies. These include the UAE Centennial 2071, the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, and the UAE Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It also includes the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai proactive and creative in meeting the needs of individuals and society as a whole. It also supports the Dubai Paperless Strategy, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to build an integrated paperless government framework by 2021,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“Through Digital DEWA, the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA is redefining the concept of a utility to create a new digital future for Dubai to support the Dubai 10X initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to propel Dubai into the future, putting it 10 years ahead of other global cities through government innovation and disruptive technologies. DEWA will disrupt the entire business of public utilities by becoming the world’s first digital utility to use autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage. At the same time, we are expanding our use of Artificial Intelligence and digital services,” added Al Tayer.
