DEWA’s EVP of Innovation & the Future wins AI Excellence Award

In a new achievement for Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation & the Future at DEWA, won the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Excellence Award 2019 from Business Intelligence Group. Bin Haidar won the award in the Theory of Mind category in recognition of his efforts in enhancing the use of AI in DEWA. The Artificial Intelligence Excellence Award recognises organisations and people who bring AI to life and apply it to solve real problems.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, congratulated Bin Haidar on this achievement and commended his efforts in achieving DEWA’s strategy to consolidate the UAE's position and Dubai's role as a leading hub for shaping the future and making it a platform for experimenting with disruptive solutions and technologies. DEWA’s strategies and initiatives are aligned to the UAE’s leading national strategies. These include the UAE Centennial 2071; the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy, to create productive, creative, and innovative environments by investing and using AI technologies and tools; and the UAE Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to strengthen the UAE's position as a global hub for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and contribute to building a knowledge-and-innovation-based national economy.

Bin Haidar thanked Al Tayer, and emphasised that DEWA, under Al Tayer’s leadership, has become one of the most innovative utilities in the world. DEWA is disrupting the business model of public utilities, becoming the world’s first digital utility to use autonomous systems for renewable-energy and storage; expanding the use of digital services. DEWA’s efforts are focussed on entering the race for the future by employing the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s technologies such as AI, unmanned aerial vehicles, energy storage, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as developing technical infrastructure and state-of-the-art customer centres with advanced solutions.
