HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received a delegation from the Republic of Cyprus at DEWA’s pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai. The delegation was headed by HE Natasa Pilides, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus; Yannis Michaelides, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the UAE; and HE Dr Stelios D. Himonas, Commissioner General for Cyprus at EXPO 2020 Dubai. HE Shamsa Saleh, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment, and a number of DEWA officials were present. The delegations learned about DEWA’s key projects in renewable energy, innovation, climate change and sustainability.
Al Tayer welcomed the visiting delegations and reviewed DEWA’s key projects at its pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai as well as its smart services and innovative initiatives in renewable and clean energy. He also reviewed DEWA’s efforts to use Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to disrupt the business of utilities and become the world’s first digital utility.
“DEWA has an unprecedented track record of pioneering achievements and initiatives locally and globally in renewable and clean energy such as solar photovoltaic panels, Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) systems, green hydrogen production using solar energy, Hatta’s pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant using clean energy, as well as the using wind energy project” said Al Tayer.
Al Tayer briefed the visiting delegation with DEWA’s mega projects and innovative initiatives such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world; Green Hydrogen project, the first of its kind in the MENA region to produce hydrogen from solar power; Digital DEWA, the digital arm of DEWA; the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME); Hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, using clean energy; Dubai Summit; and Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls.
The Cypriot delegation visited the corner of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) which promotes the shift towards green economy and helps countries and organisations achieve their green strategies and plans, in addition to the Al Shera’a (Arabic for sail) Building model, DEWA’s new headquarters which will become the world’s largest, tallest, and smartest, net zero energy government building; and Space-D programme.
