DEWA’s blockchain integrates around 2,000 Ejari tenancy contracts on daily basis

DEWA’s blockchain integrates around 2,000 Ejari tenancy contracts on daily basis

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that it receives tenancy contract data of about 2,000 customers daily for new and renewal contracts. DEWA’s systems are integrated with Ejari using blockchain, which enables the activation of electricity and water service as soon as the Ejari contract is attested at real estate companies and typing centres accredited by the Dubai Land Department. Customers do not have to visit DEWA’s Customer Happiness Centres. The integration with Ejari also enables automatic updates of the annual rent value in DEWA’s system at the time of annual renewals. This in turn, updates the housing fees, eliminating the need for customers to visit Dubai Municipality to adjust the yearly rent value.

“At DEWA, we work in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that a smart government is one that goes to the people and does not wait for them to come to it. DEWA has enhanced the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and developed its infrastructure to provide smart and innovative services that save the time and effort of over one million customers in Dubai for their happiness. This also contributes to protecting the environment by eliminating paper in line with the Dubai Paperless Strategy launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. DEWA has completed the digital transformation of all its operations and services by 100%,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer explained that the blockchain platform through which DEWA and the Dubai Land Department were connected in 2017, was the first blockchain initiative from Dubai Government. It enables participants to automate processes including renewal of tenancy contracts, obtaining 'Ejari', and activating electricity and water services to enhance customer happiness.

Al Tayer noted that DEWA has a strategy for digital transactions and was one of the first government organisations to adopt blockchain technology in several services and initiatives. These include registration in the Green Charger service for electric vehicles, registering and renewing smart tenancy contracts in collaboration with Wasl Asset Management Group and Dubai Land, as well as the Payment Reconciliation and Settlement system.

DEWA provides all its services on its website http://www.dewa.gove.ae and smart app, which is compatible with all smart systems and devices.
