The Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, held its third virtual meeting for 2022. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia, chaired the meeting in the presence of board members: HE Fahad Abdelrahman bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary-General for Development and International Cooperation at Emirates Red Crescent and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Suqia; HE Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs; HE Dr Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research at UAE University; Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation at DEWA; Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA; Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia UAE; and Humaid Abdulla Al Hammadi, Acting Secretary of the Board.
The meeting discussed the ongoing preparations for the awards ceremony of the 3rd Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, which was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with total prizes of USD 1 million. The Award aims to encourage research institutions, individuals, and innovators from all over the world to find new and innovative technologies for the production, distribution, storage, control, purification and desalination of water using renewable energy.
During the meeting, Al Tayer stressed that Suqia UAE would continue its relentless efforts to convey the message of goodness of the UAE and Dubai to the world, by extending a helping hand to afflicted and impoverished communities suffering from water scarcity and pollution, and highlight the well-established philanthropic nature of the UAE. Al Tayer noted that Suqia translates the importance that Dubai attaches to enhancing the role of innovation and sustainability in international efforts to confront the global water crisis.
The meeting also focused on Suqia’s preparations for its annual Ramadan campaign, and its humanitarian initiatives during the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadan 2023, which Suqia will organise in collaboration with Mai Dubai, various government entities and charities in the UAE. In addition, the meeting focused on launching the Suqia UAE smart app to provide information about its projects and initiatives, as well as the latest developments of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award.
