HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) emphasised DEWA’s commitment to promoting a culture of sustainability and the transition towards a knowledge-based economy. This is achieved by supporting pioneering initiatives in literature and culture. Al Tayer made these remarks as he received Isobel Abulhoul, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation. DEWA took part in the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature as the ‘Sustainability Partner’.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer commended the role of the Emirates Literature Foundation in organising the Festival, which spreads awareness among the public, deepening their appreciation and understanding of literature and different cultures.
“We were pleased to continue DEWA’s support for the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature as the official Sustainability Partner, especially as we are in the Year of Sustainability announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. We contribute to building a knowledge society in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote Dubai as a city that has a strong economy based on knowledge, in addition to consolidating the UAE’s position as a capital for content, culture and knowledge. The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature has become one of the best literary festivals in the world, with its pioneering programmes and initiatives that contribute to promoting a culture of reading among members of society, as well as preparing a generation of readers who are passionate about education and learning,” said Al Tayer.
“DEWA continues its social role to instil a culture of sustainability, raise awareness of the challenges of climate change, and engage the youth in implementing the UAE’s plans and initiatives to achieve sustainable development and the transition towards a knowledge-based society. This is achieved by promoting culture and a love for reading and knowledge among members of society,” added Al Tayer.
“As I look back on 15 years of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, I do so with tremendous appreciation for the steadfast sponsors and supporters who have been on this journey to celebrate literature with us and make our Festival possible. DEWA, as our sustainability partner, holds the same beliefs in empowering people to change lives for the better through knowledge, and this can only be attained by cultivating a love of reading and investing in the power of words, through which we can make a difference to the world we live in,” said Isobel Abulhoul, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation.
Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is held with Founding Partners Emirates Airline and the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated authority for heritage, arts, and culture. It is one of the most significant cultural and literary events in the UAE and the Arab World. It provides an exceptional opportunity to meet local and international writers and authors as well as attend workshops, panel discussions and comprehensive awareness programmes for various age groups.
