Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) | DEWA’s R&D Centre registers its 8th patent for a device that positions geographical areas with high accuracy

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Research and Development Centre has registered its eighth patent for a device that positions and surveys geographical areas, based on data it collects on-site using advanced sensors. The device then processes the data using real-time kinematic (RTK) processing techniques. The device works with a smart device developed by the R&D Centre to read the updated coordinates in a few seconds using a smart app. This ensures higher accuracy for ground cable locations, saves time and effort, reduces manpower, and protects DEWA’s assets.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted that the research papers and patents registered by the Centre have enhanced its position as a global platform for the operations and services of the utility sector. This maintains DEWA’s worldwide leadership and consolidates Dubai’s global position in research and development in solar energy, smart grids, energy efficiency and water, and capacity building in these sectors.

The R&D Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park enriches the scientific community in the UAE and the world. This is through disseminating knowledge and nurturing the talent of Emirati researchers,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“The R&D Centre adopts an approach based on improving the services provided by DEWA to customers by developing the latest technologies and sustainable solutions for energy and water and conducting applied research. Since its launch, the Centre has published 134 research papers at international conferences and peer-reviewed journals and publications. The Centre includes 48 researchers, including 31 master degree and PhD holders,” said Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA.
