“The journey of women’s empowerment in the UAE is crowned with honourable national achievements that have received wide international recognition. This model originated from the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace; and is consolidated by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s  Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (Mother of the Nation), as inspiring examples for leadership, ambition and successes. Our wise leadership seeks to enhance women’s participation in achieving comprehensive sustainable development. At DEWA, we support efforts to sustain and develop this pioneering model by providing a positive and motivational work environment that supports the empowerment and leadership of women, making full use of their innovative potential and developing their personal and life skills. This helps them to consolidate gains and deal with various challenges, play an effective role in anticipating and creating a sustainable future, as well as build cohesive families, and achieve ambitious national goals,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA has 1,940 female employees working in all its divisions, including 813 female employees in the engineering and technical sector, while 1,070 female employees occupy supervisory positions at DEWA. Emirati female employees constitute 83.56% of the total female workforce at DEWA, whereas the percentage of Emirati women at the Research and Development Centre is 31%, holding postgraduate degrees in the scientific and engineering fields. DEWA is one of the most prominent national organisations to support women in the energy sector, especially renewable and clean energy and sustainability. It provides equal opportunities for men and women, focusing on empowering women in senior and technical positions. This makes it a role model for public and private government organisations inside and outside the UAE,” added Al Tayer.
