“The theme of the World Water Day for this year: ̒Be The Change You Want to See in The World̓ aligns with the UAE and Dubai’s efforts to make a positive change that ensures the sustainability of resources, and a brighter future for current and future generations, especially that the water crises worldwide is increasing. According to the United Nations, one in three people globally does not have access to safe drinking water. In our turn, at DEWA, we support the national goals to achieve the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability. We are working to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance water security and sustainability in Dubai, as part of the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030, the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, and the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, including Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. We continue our efforts to strengthen our robust state-of-the-art infrastructure, to adopt innovation and the latest tools for anticipating the future. Our sound scientific planning has helped us keep pace with the growing demand for water in Dubai, according to the highest international standards. DEWA’s total production capacity has reached 490 Million Imperial Gallons per Day (MIGD) of desalinated water, including 63 MIGD using Reverse Osmosis (RO). In line with the Demand Side Management Strategy to reduce consumption of electricity and water by 30% by 2030, DEWA has enhanced its smart grid to enable customers to monitor, manage and control their consumption proactively and digitally through smart meters. We currently have 2.1 million smart meters for electricity and water.,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“To support our water reserves, we are currently building a reinforced concrete 60 million gallon reservoir in Lusaily alongside the existing one, which stores 120 million gallons of desalinated water. DEWA is building another 120 MIG reservoir in Nakhali. We also cooperate with several national entities to implement strategic water connection projects. We are also implementing the 120 MIGD Hassyan SWRO Plant Project using the Independent Water Producer (IWP) model. In 2022, our efforts culminated in achieving the Guinness World Records title for owning and managing the Largest Single-Site Water Desalination Facility in the World,” added Al Tayer.
