DEWA celebrates the Arabic language on World Arabic Language Day 2023

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised several heritage and cultural activities with an Arabic theme. This coincided with World Arabic Language Day, observed on 18 December every year. Observing World Arabic Language Day supports DEWA’s commitment to strengthen the National identity in the Emirati society.

To mark the occasion, DEWA organised a workshop on Arabic calligraphy for its employees of various cultures to learn how to write Arabic letters and words, in collaboration with a professional calligrapher. DEWA also cooperated with a local publishing house to organise a mini-book exhibition to sell Arabic books. DEWA provided various Arabic resources and books to encourage its employees to read, in addition to allocating a special reading corner. DEWA also sent newsletters with valuable information on the Arabic language to develop employees’ insights into the language. DEWA also organised several activities in its head office, including interactive activities to test the employees’ Arabic language knowledge and skills. Moreover, a special hashtag (#BilArabi) was used in DEWA’s social media channels.

“At DEWA, we support the efforts of the wise leadership who has taken the responsibility of preserving and protecting the Arabic language and consolidating its eternal position among the languages of the world. We realise that it is our national, religious, and moral responsibility to protect the Arabic language. It is the language of the Holy Quran and the symbol of our national identity, culture, and heritage. Arabic is the bridge that connects us with our roots and history, as well as the main path leading us to a brighter future. We spare no effort in enhancing the use of Arabic in all aspects of life. It is a main language for internal and external communications and all the services we provide to the public at DEWA. It is also a main language in DEWA’s operational systems and organisational reports. DEWA is committed to naming its initiatives and projects in Arabic as a priority. We also support national initiatives and programmes that aim to enhance the current and next generations’ bond with the Arabic language. On World Arabic Language Day, I urge you to contribute to promoting the Arabic language, learn about its beautiful and rich vocabulary, expressions, and styles by making use of DEWA’s various initiatives and programmes to enhance the use and proficiency in the Arabic language and strengthen Arabic content. I also urge non-Arabic speaking employees to take advantage of the training courses and programmes DEWA provides to learn Arabic, the language of the future, science, innovation, and culture,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, in a message to DEWA’s employees.
