With global focus shifting towards innovative solutions to address climate change, the 10th edition of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) highlights rapid advancements in clean energy, responding to the urgent need for decarbonisation and reduced dependence on traditional energy sources. This year’s summit emphasises the increasing adoption of renewable and clean energy technologies, particularly solar, wind and geothermal power. Additionally, WGES 2024 will serve as a platform for discussions on the pivotal role of green hydrogen, energy storage systems and the latest developments in smart grids – key areas shaping the future of energy innovation.
Held annually under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the 10th WGES is organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO). The summit will take place on 2 to 3 October 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, under the theme ‘Empowering Global Action: Unlocking Opportunities and Advancing Progress’.
“Guided by the visionary leadership of the UAE, the country continues to lead global sustainability efforts by initiating innovative projects and promoting the widespread adoption of renewable and clean energy sources. This year’s World Green Economy Summit will focus on the crucial need for effective energy storage solutions, given the expanding use of renewable energy sources worldwide. Innovations in smart grids and battery technologies are essential for enhancing grid stability, ensuring reliable energy resources and improving the efficiency of renewable energy use,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD & CEO of DEWA and Chairman of WGEO.
Al Tayer explained that DEWA is leading Dubai's transition to clean energy and carbon neutrality, with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park at the core of DEWA’s strategy to achieve 100% clean energy by 2050.
“Through continuous clean energy advancements, DEWA has integrated cutting-edge technologies, achieved the lowest Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) globally, and set world records, thereby significantly advancing Dubai’s sustainable energy goals. Our commitment to pioneering innovation and collaboration, which are key to these advancements, enables commercially viable technology improvements and drives transformative outcomes in the sustainable energy sector,” said Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA.
The 10th WGES will feature high-level panel discussions with a distinguished line-up of global experts exploring strategies for leveraging advancements in clean energy and addressing the challenges of the climate crisis. The summit’s agenda will underscore the critical roles of governments, private sector companies, and research institutions in driving innovation and mobilising investments in the green energy sector.
