World Green Economy Summit highlights green hydrogen as a key catalyst for a sustainable future

Green hydrogen, often referred to as the fuel of the future, is emerging as one of the most prominent clean energy sources that will significantly contribute to transforming the glClimate Change; Youth in Climate Change; and Food and Water.

“Global interest in investing in clean and renewable energy sources, including green hydrogen, is rising, particularly as the cost of renewable energy production decreases. The UAE is at the forefront of this energy transition, leveraging innovation and research and development to expand the use of green energy. We look forward to advancing green energy at the 10th World Green Economy Summit, laying the groundwork for a just energy transition to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD&CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of WGEO.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, noted that DEWA has implemented the Green Hydrogen project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to produce green hydrogen using solar power, store it, and convert it into electrical energy, in addition to other applications in the transport and industrial sectors. The project exemplifies DEWA’s dedication to pioneering initiatives that not only support the UAE's vision for a green economy.

A Pioneering Platform for Dialogue on Energy of the Future

Since its inception, the World Green Economy Summit has continued its pioneering role as a global platform for dialogue, the exchange of ideas, and forward-looking visions for the energy sector. The Summit actively supports taking concrete practical steps to transition to a green economy by adopting innovative initiatives, methodologies, and technical solutions that stimulate green investments. This year’s summit features the theme ‘Clean Energy Advancements,’ focusing on expanding the adoption and investment in renewable energies, including green hydrogen.

To highlight DEWA’s efforts in Green Hydrogen, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Aleeli, Vice President of R&D, Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, and Dr. Hesham Ismail, Senior Manager, Technology Advancement and Demonstration at DEWA’s R&D Centre, will participate in this year’s WGES.
