Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised 38 training courses in 2024, certifying 1,115 specialists of engineers and technicians as registered solar photovoltaic (PV) consultants and contractors. This effort is part of DEWA’s commitment to provide extensive training for the accreditation of consultants and contractors engaged in the installation of solar systems on buildings under its Shams Dubai initiative.

The programme comprises theoretical and practical courses that cover technical aspects related to PV system installation, compliance with safety standards and adherence to DEWA’s technical guidelines. As a result of these efforts, 111 companies were enrolled to engage in the design and implementation of Shams Dubai projects.

“In line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the Emirate’s energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, we are committed to providing the latest technologies, the best tools, and training and awareness programmes to enhance the participation of all community members in driving the transition to clean and renewable energy. We facilitate the work of contractors and consultants and help them design and instal solar PV energy systems in buildings in accordance with the highest standards of quality, efficiency and sustainability. We spare no effort to provide information, innovative digital services, and smart and automated programmes to accelerate the process of obtaining DEWA’s accreditation, in addition to facilitating the implementation of projects, especially related to sustainability and solar and clean energy,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Shams Dubai allows household and building owners to install PV panels for solar energy generation while connecting seamlessly to DEWA’s grid. To date, the solar PV systems connected to DEWA’s distribution network boast a collective capacity of 725 megawatts (MW), spread across more than 8,430 buildings in Dubai.
