HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has announced that DEWA’s interactive ‘Hab Reeh’ platform witnessed a notable surge in use in 2024. The globally acclaimed smart platform, which allows self-assessments of solar photovoltaic (PV) system designs, facilitated the evaluation of over 1,700 solar connection requests last year, reflecting a year-on-year increase of more than 30%.
Named after an Emirati expression that denotes speed, efficiency and positivity, ‘Hab Reeh’ is an integral part of DEWA’s Shams Dubai initiative that allows building owners to install and connect PV systems to DEWA’s grid. Al Tayer noted that to date, the solar PV systems connected to DEWA’s distribution network under Shams Dubai boast a collective capacity of 725 megawatts (MW), spread across more than 8,430 buildings in Dubai.
“Thanks to the proactive vision of the wise leadership, we are witnessing a high turnout in the use and adoption of solar energy, putting the UAE among the leading countries in terms of solar use. DEWA invests in the latest disruptive technologies to accelerate the digital transformation and facilitate the work of contractors and consultants, helping them to design and install solar PV systems in buildings in accordance with the highest quality standards and international benchmarks. DEWA automates the submission and approval of applications, and also provides added-value digital services. This comes in line with the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050,” said Al Tayer.
The ‘Hab Reeh’ platform guarantees compliance with DEWA’s stringent quality standards and international benchmarks. It expedites system approvals, streamlines customer processes and reduces costs. The platform provides users with unlimited design options and a database of more than 150 types of approved solar energy equipment from international manufacturers, enabling them to choose the most suitable tools.
