In line with its ongoing efforts to strengthen national identity and promote loyalty and belonging, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) celebrated Union Pledge Day, observed annually on 18 July, with a series of events reflecting the spirit of the Union and the values established by the Founding Fathers. This occasion commemorates the historic moment in 1971 when the Declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution were signed.

“I am honoured to extend my congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Their Highnesses the Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates on Union Pledge Day. This precious national milestone reminds us of our shared identity and the unity that binds us as one nation. Fulfilling the Union’s pledge is not limited to commemoration, but also means building on this foundation and harnessing all capabilities to help shape a brighter, more prosperous future. On this glorious day, we pledge to the nation and its wise leadership to continue working with determination and sincerity to uphold the values and principles that have guided the Union’s journey and to reinforce the UAE’s global leadership across all fields,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Distinctive national events

As part of its commitment to transforming national events into inspiring milestones that embody the values of the Union, DEWA organised a number of initiatives. These included awareness workshops titled ‘Ahd Yatajaddad’ (A Pledge Renewed) in both Arabic and English, presented by Taha Al Hamri, Chief Happiness Officer, who highlighted the historical context and patriotic significance of this important day. DEWA sent electronic bulletins to raise employee awareness about the importance of Union Pledge Day and to promote national values. A documentary video was also shared, spotlighting the history of the UAE’s Union and DEWA’s role in supporting national initiatives. In addition, DEWA launched internal competitions for employees and public ones via its social media platforms. To empower Emirati entrepreneurs, DEWA organised a community exhibition supporting Emirati employees who own small businesses, offering them a platform to showcase their products.

DEWA employees expressed pride in taking part in this national celebration. They reaffirmed their commitment to the Union’s journey and renewed their pledge of loyalty and belonging to the nation and its leadership, vowing to continue supporting development, uphold the founding principles and values of the UAE and contribute to the country’s continued progress across all sectors.
