DEWA earns ‘Best Innovation’ recognition at UK’s Best Business Awards 2025

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received the 2025 ‘Best Innovation’ award, which DEWA won at the UK’s Best Business Awards. The award was presented to DEWA's Power and Water Planning Division in recognition of their outstanding efforts in developing “Shaheen” digital programme, which has achieved significant success in maintaining the distribution power quality in line with DEWA standards and boosted customer satisfaction with Shams Dubai initiative.

The programme combines software solutions and smart systems, ensuring that customer requests are submitted in compliance with DEWA’s approved power quality standards from the first time through pre-assessment of requests. The programme has contributed to financial savings for customers exceeding AED 8.25 million. Two papers based on its findings were published at prestigious conferences in the UAE and the US, underscoring the programme's pioneering scientific and research standing.

Al Tayer emphasised that this achievement aligns with the vision and directives of the wise leadership to consolidate a culture of innovation and promote sustainability.

It underlines our success in harnessing the latest digital technologies and artificial intelligence to enhance the efficiency of the energy sector. This achievement is the result of the efforts of a dedicated and creative team that supports DEWA’s efforts to consolidate Dubai's leading position as a global capital for the green economy and innovation,” said Al Tayer.

Commenting on DEWA’s win in the Best Innovation category, Joe Calder, chairman of the judges at the Best Business Awards congratulated DEWA for implementing an award-winning and innovative digital assessment programme that has improved the efficiency of evaluating distributed photovoltaic systems.

DEWA seeks to further develop Shaheen programme and enhance its applications in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050. DEWA also works to localise knowledge and transfer expertise to ensure sustainable innovation and excellence.
