DEWA wins ‘Sustainability Initiative of the Year 2025’ award

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won the ‘Sustainability Initiative of the Year’ award at the 2025 Sustainability Awards, organised by the USA Business Intelligence Group. The award celebrates DEWA’s Planning Circular Transformation initiative, which has set a global benchmark in promoting sustainability, innovation and efficiency in electrical energy distribution networks.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, received the award, which was won by the Power and Water Planning team.

“Winning the 2025 Sustainability Initiative Award reinforces the global recognition of DEWA’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and excellence. This achievement aligns with the vision and directives of our wise leadership to consolidate Dubai's position as a global hub for sustainability and the green economy. The Planning Circular Transformation of the Dubai Power Distribution Network initiative is a practical model of how to accelerate the transition towards clean energy through smart and sustainable strategies, and advance a brighter, more eco-friendly future,” said Al Tayer.

The Planning Circular Transformation initiative supported the circular economy through optimised planning of the electricity distribution network. This, in turn, enhanced the efficiency of electricity distribution resources, delivered over AED 13.9 million in financial savings and reinforced network reliability. It also enabled DEWA to achieve the world’s lowest customer minutes lost (CML) of 0.94 minutes per year, alongside a customer happiness score of 97.01%. The initiative reduced emissions by more than 14,473 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2024, supporting the UAE's strategic initiative to achieve net zero by 2050.

In 2024, DEWA achieved a Sustainability Culture Index reading of 92.67% based on a corporate survey of about 4,000 employees. The Sustainability Awards, organised annually by Business Intelligence Group, are among the most prominent international awards that celebrate organisations and initiatives demonstrating excellence, innovation and tangible achievements in promoting sustainability. This accomplishment adds to DEWA’s record of international awards, reaffirming its leadership in sustainability and its pivotal role in supporting a more sustainable future for Dubai, the UAE and the world.
