The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Women’s Committee hosted the Pink Caravan initiative in observance of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held annually in October. The event is part of DEWA’s commitment to its social responsibility and efforts to enhance quality of life for women. The Pink Caravan featured a comprehensive programme of educational activities and awareness sessions delivered in both Arabic and English, attracting the participation of more than 200 female employees from DEWA’s various divisions.

The initiative aimed to raise female employee awareness about breast cancer, emphasising the importance of early detection through regular screenings and self-examination. It also provided guidance on appropriate steps to follow in the event of a cancer diagnosis. A Pink Caravan medical team also conducted on-site health checks and distributed mammogram vouchers to attendees.

“In line with DEWA’s commitment to supporting pioneering health, community and humanitarian initiatives that will achieve national goals of building a strong, healthy and sustainable society – and in support of the third goal United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on health and well-being – the Women’s Committee is committed to participating annually in the Pink Caravan to consolidate a responsible health culture of prevention and early support. It also aims to highlight the importance of periodic, proactive examinations for early detection of diseases, thus enhancing the chances of successful treatment,” said Fatima Al Jokar, Chairperson of the Women’s Committee at DEWA.

Committee Vice Chairperson Aysha Al Asam said: “The Women’s Committee provides a positive, supportive and motivating environment that helps female employees achieve a balance between their professional, social and family lives, and helps them face various challenges.”
