“In the UAE, we proudly observe National Environmental Day, a meaningful occasion that embodies our leadership’s commitment to protecting the environment and conserving natural resources for future generations. We follow the footsteps of the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and we inspire our vision from the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to advancing sustainable development through the preservation of the environment and its sustainability. We continue to strengthen the UAE’s position as a leading global hub for developing practical and innovative solutions that advance climate action and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. We have developed a comprehensive strategy to protect all environmental components, including gaseous, solid, and liquid elements, in accordance with global, federal, and local standards. Our approach is built on a solid foundation focused on conserving natural resources and preserving biodiversity. We rigorously address all environmental requirements, prioritising emission reduction, effective waste management, and careful monitoring of water resources. These efforts are supported by the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and best practices across all DEWA operations and projects.

Our commitment to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 led to significant progress in clean energy transmission during 2025. DEWA added 1,000MW of clean energy production capacity through the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single site solar park in the world, with a total production capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW). By 2030, its total capacity will exceed 8,000MW, compared to the original plan of 5,000MW. The share of clean energy now exceeds 21.5% of DEWA’s total capacity. We built the 250MW pumped-storage Hydroelectric Power Plant in Hatta, the first of its kind in the GCC region. In addition, DEWA’s Green Hydrogen Project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to use solar power to produce hydrogen, has produced over 100 tonnes of green hydrogen which has been utilised for green power generation, hydrogen vehicle refueling, in addition to other usages,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“We support sustainable mobility by providing more than 1,860 public charging points across Dubai through our electric vehicles Green Charger initiative. Additionally, we adopt nature-based solutions to enhance biodiversity and address climate change. DEWA has planted 13,950 mangroves trees in the Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary. We organise local and international events to mobilise climate action and raise awareness on adopting environmentally conscious lifestyles, while promoting collective and individual responsibility to address environmental challenges and ensure a better, more sustainable, and greener future,” added Al Tayer.
