The impact of initiatives launched by the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) continues to expand year after year, providing clean and safe water to millions of underprivileged people worldwide and helping ensure a dignified life for disadvantaged communities. Since its launch in 2015, the sustainable water projects implemented by Suqia UAE have benefited approximately 15 million people in 37 countries.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia UAE, affirmed Suqia’s commitment to the approach of sustainable humanitarian giving established by the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and supported by the wise directives HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“The wise leadership’s unwavering support for Suqia UAE has significantly broadened its operational scope and enhanced its ability to reach communities in need worldwide. This further consolidates the UAE’s position as a global hub for innovation and for advancing sustainable solutions to humanitarian and developmental challenges,” added Al Tayer.

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, particularly Goal 6, which seeks to ensure access to water and sanitation for all, Suqia UAE is committed to alleviating the suffering of communities most affected by water scarcity by driving innovation and developing sustainable solutions that deliver lasting impact.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award

Suqia UAE oversees the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. With prizes totalling USD 1 million, the award encourages research and development and innovation in sustainable solutions to the global water crisis using renewable energy. It contributes to addressing water scarcity challenges and improving access to safe water in less-developed communities worldwide.

Over its first four cycles, the award honoured 43 winners from 26 countries in recognition of their pioneering efforts in water production, desalination and purification. Millions have benefited from the winning projects in the award’s fourth cycle alone. The award is currently receiving applications for its fifth cycle until 30 September 2026, offering universities, research centres, institutions, companies, innovators and individuals from around the world the opportunity to participate with innovative projects and solutions that contribute to addressing water scarcity challenges and strengthening water security.

Suqia UAE’s project in Tanzania

Under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent and the UAE Embassy in Tanzania, Suqia UAE has implemented several projects in Tanzania to provide clean and potable water to communities and villages across the country. To date, more than one million people have benefited from Suqia UAE’s projects in Tanzania. Beyond improving quality of life and protecting communities from waterborne diseases, the projects are helping to ease the daily burden of water collection, enabling beneficiaries to dedicate more time to work, education and their families.

Ramadan Campaign 2026

Suqia UAE implemented its annual Ramadan Campaign in collaboration with 19 organisations and associations. Each year, DEWA employees support the campaign by distributing water bottles with Iftar meals in mosques and Iftar tents, as well as food baskets to families in need.

Al Freej Fridge Campaign

Suqia UAE participated for the third consecutive year in the Al Freej Fridge humanitarian campaign. Launched by Ferjan Dubai, with the support of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and in collaboration with Suqia and the UAE Food Bank, the campaign aims to distribute two million bottles of cold water, juices and frozen treats to workers across Dubai during the summer.
