Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) employees recorded 963 volunteer hours across humanitarian and social initiatives in the first half of 2026, benefiting more than 2.96 million people in the UAE and abroad. Between 2013 and June 2026, DEWA launched 515 social initiatives, through which its employees contributed 271,433 volunteer hours to humanitarian and community programmes that positively impacted communities around the world. Reflecting the success of these initiatives DEWA achieved a societal happiness score of 95% in 2025.

“Inspired by the authentic humanitarian legacy of the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we continue to deepen the UAE’s sustainable positive impact, strengthening its position as a global leader in humanitarian action and volunteerism. We remain dedicated to cultivating a work environment that champions community engagement and humanitarian service, while embedding volunteerism as a sustainable and deeply rooted social practice. Furthermore, as part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and commitment as socially responsible corporation, we are keen to expand opportunities for volunteering and promote the values of compassion, giving and cooperation, thereby contributing to a more cohesive, prosperous and sustainable society,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Government Communications at DEWA, said: "DEWA’s humanitarian and social initiatives reflect its unwavering commitment to making social responsibility an integral part of its corporate culture. We are dedicated to launching impactful initiatives that address the needs of society, deliver tangible positive results, and enable our employees and partners to actively contribute to serving society while fostering the values of giving and solidarity. The results achieved by DEWA demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach and the importance of partnerships with various entities and organisations, thereby helping to consolidate a culture of volunteerism and enhance its sustainable impact."

In the first half of 2026, DEWA launched 19 social initiatives, most notably the distribution of Iftar meals on Zayed Humanitarian Day, observed on the 19th of Ramadan each year. In collaboration with the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Cultural Understanding, DEWA also launched the Hayyakum Initiative, providing Iftar meals to tourists during the Holy Month of Ramadan and reflecting the long-standing values of Emirati generosity and hospitality.

As part of its Ramadan outreach efforts, DEWA launched the 2026 Ramadan Meer Al Khair annual community campaign, in collaboration with licensed charitable organisations in the UAE, to provide essential food supplies and basic provisions to families in need during the Holy Month.

DEWA also organised a winter camp in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities to introduce new Muslims to the significance of Ramadan and support them in embracing its values.
