The Hassyan desalination plant project in Dubai is one of the world’s largest seawater desalination projects using reverse osmosis technology. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is developing the project under the Independent Water Producer model.
The project aligns with DEWA’s efforts to realise the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide advanced and integrated energy and water infrastructure that keeps pace with Dubai’s rapid growth and meets the increasing demand for water services.
The Hassyan project is part of DEWA’s efforts to enhance water security in Dubai through sustainable sources, using the latest technologies and innovative solutions, while reducing emissions and achieving net zero by 2050. The project supports the objectives of the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 and the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030.
With investments totalling AED 3.377 billion, the project is DEWA’s first under the Independent Water Producer model and will have a production capacity of 180 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
