DEWA Supports Dubai Cares as Main Sponsor of Volunteer Emirates 2014

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is supporting Dubai Cares as the main sponsor of the second edition of its Volunteer Emirates initiative. The move is in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to serve society and support community activities in different areas. Volunteer Emirates is part of a series of local initiatives launched last year by Dubai Cares that offer UAE residents the opportunity to help their community and improve the learning environment of non-for-profit schools in the UAE. DEWA sponsored the second edition of Volunteer Emirates at Gulf Model School in Dubai to give uplift to its 32-year-old premises. A number of DEWA employees and volunteers from the educational sector and the community took part in the maintenance activities that included painting murals and assembling school furniture to establish an ideal learning environment for students. Many volunteers have participated in the activities to enhance the educational environment for students in a number of schools across the UAE. Their activities included assembling desks and sports equipment, painting classrooms, providing educational games, fixing book shelves, installing air conditioners in the classrooms, landscaping the playgrounds, as well as participating in group games and painting murals. “DEWA’s sponsorship of Volunteer Emirates is in line with our strategic plan which is part of Dubai’s Vision to enhance social responsibility. As a sustainable world-class utility, DEWA set up the principles of social responsibility through focusing on the concepts of giving, solidarity and volunteerism in addition to adopting different activities and programmes that aim to achieve a coherent society in line with the aspirations of our leadership,” Said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA. Dubai Cares has been supported by 1,189 volunteer to renovate and improve the learning environment in 9 schools and kindergartens across the UAE. DEWA is planning to sponsor more social responsibility programmes in cooperation with Dubai Cares inside the UAE. The Volunteer Emirates Programmes will cover different governmental organisations and facilities such as public libraries, hospitals and orphanages. Priority will be given to educational institutions.
