On 18 July 1971, sincere determination converged with a visionary aspiration as our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of the Union and the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates. This historic moment marked the beginning of an exceptional national journey founded on unity, driven by boundless ambition and guided by an unwavering belief in the capabilities of the Emirati people. The Union established a model in which people are at the heart of development, cohesion is the foundation of progress and ambition is the pathway to achievement.

Each year, Union Pledge Day reaffirms our commitment to the values upon which our nation was built and renews our pledge to continue advancing the remarkable journey of the Union. It serves as a powerful reminder that challenges can be transformed into opportunities, and aspirations into tangible achievements. More than a commemoration of a defining historical event, it is a national occasion that reinforces our collective responsibility to preserve the Union’s legacy and contribute to shaping its future.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and their fellow Founding Fathers established an inspiring model of visionary leadership rooted in wisdom, unity and sustainability. Their legacy extended far beyond the creation of a modern state; it laid the foundations for a system of values based on tolerance, humanitarian work, environmental stewardship and the responsible management of resources for future generations.

Today, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and Their Highnesses, the Members of the Supreme Council and the Rulers of the Emirates, the UAE continues to strengthen its position as a global model for sustainable development and the economy of the future. Within just a few decades, the UAE has become a global benchmark for renewable and clean energy, innovation, digital transformation and human development.
