Dubai’s 1,270 EV charging points enhance its leadership in sustainable mobility

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has revealed that Dubai now has a network of over 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the emirate. This includes charging points provided by DEWA in collaboration with its partners from both the public and private sectors. Al Tayer affirmed that DEWA continues to advance green mobility and support Dubai’s plans to transition to environmentally friendly transport, in line with national efforts to increase the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50% of all vehicles on UAE roads by 2050

DEWA makes significant strides in eliminating government bureaucracy and achieves digital integration for over 100 projects

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has emphasised DEWA’s commitment to fulfilling the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to eliminate government bureaucracy and boost the UAE’s competitiveness. The UAE was ranked first globally in the 2025 Absence of Bureaucracy Index, part of the Government Efficiency pillar in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking.

DEWA plants 13,350 mangrove trees in collaboration with Emirates Marine Environmental Group

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised 10 events from February 2023 to February 2025, in collaboration with the Emirates Marine Environmental Group, resulting in the planting of 13,350 mangrove trees at Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary. More than 1,650 volunteers – including DEWA employees, their families, subsidiary staff and DEWA Academy students – recorded 3,626 hours of service. The campaigns achieved happiness scores of 92.9% in 2023 and 94.3% in 2024, demonstrating DEWA’s commitment to promoting mangrove sustainability. Additionally, DEWA removed 3,546 kilograms of mostly plastic waste and cleared eight tonnes of algae and seaweed from the beach of the reserve.

DEWA wins Middle East and Africa Deal of the Year 2024 award for Hassyan desalination plant project

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received the ‘Middle East and Africa Deal of the Year 2024’ award from Project Finance International (PFI), a leading publication specialising in tracking and analysing global projects, financial transactions and project deals. DEWA was recognised for its 180 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) seawater reverse osmosis (RO) desalination project in Hassyan. The project is the largest of its kind in the world using RO technology under the independent water producer (IWP) model, with an investment of AED 3.377 billion.

DEWA powers more than 7.2 million digital transactions in just six months

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) enabled customers to seamlessly complete more than 7.2 million transactions across several digital platforms during the first half of 2025. These transactions included 1.1 million transactions via its website, 2.6 million transactions through its smart app and 3.5 million transactions through partner-supported platforms, helping DEWA to achieve a digital service adoption of 99.5%. Additionally, more than 100 integration projects were completed with 65 government and private organisations by the end of June 2025.

DEWA encourages travellers to activate ‘Away Mode’ for smart water, energy use this summer

As part of its ‘Expand Your Smart Choices This Summer’ campaign, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has urged its residential customers to activate the ‘Away Mode’ feature before travelling. This feature helps ensure efficient electricity and water use by allowing customers to monitor their electricity and water use while travelling. It can be activated through DEWA’s website and smart app, with options to select the service activation period. The ‘Away Mode’ feature also provides daily or weekly data by email, thus facilitating early intervention and reducing waste.

Suqia UAE’s Board of Trustees: More than 943,000 people benefit from Suqia’s projects in Tanzania

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), announced that more than 943,000 people have benefitted from Suqia’s projects in Tanzania to date. Suqia’s projects that implement the grant from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent, aim to provide clean drinking water to over one million people in Tanzania and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025.

18 July: A reaffirmed commitment to follow the Union's course

On 18 July 1971, the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, together with the Rulers of the Emirates, met at the Guest Palace in Dubai, where they signed the declaration forming the Union and the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates, officially proclaiming the name of our nation. That day marked the beginning of one of the most successful models of unity and development in modern history. This culminated on the second of December, when the Union flag was raised, signifying the birth of a country that chose to build its future on the foundations of unity and forward-looking vision.
