DEWA’s R&D Centre develops a digital first approach for the condition assessment of critical assets

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Research and Development (R&D) Centre has developed a digital-first approach to assess the condition of critical assets, such as power transformers and overhead lines (OHL). The deployed approach does not require sensors on site or installation of any hardware equipment; Only the data of the assets and their geographic locations are required.

DEWA commissions 558 11 kV distribution substations in first half of 2024

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), announced that DEWA has commissioned 558 11 kV distribution substations across Dubai in the first half of 2024. The construction of these substations and related work resulted in a total of 420,350 man-hours, all completed according to the highest standards of health and safety. Al Tayer emphasised that DEWA continues its efforts to keep pace with Dubai’s significant development and growth, meeting the increasing demand for electricity while maintaining power supply according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, and sustainability.

DEWA organises Youth Forum in conjunction with International Youth Day 2024

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inaugurated the Youth Forum organised by DEWA’s Youth Council in conjunction with International Youth Day 2024, observed annually on 12 August. The Forum included a series of activities and panel discussions with the participation of more than 100 young male and female employees, as well as local and corporate youth councils, including the Dubai Youth Council, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Youth Council, the Community Development Authority (CDA) Youth Council, and the Du Youth Council.

DEWA’s employees share 2,744 innovative ideas in first half of 2024 through ‘Afkari’ digital platform

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s employees shared 2,744 innovative ideas in the first half of 2024 through the Afkari (Arabic for My Ideas) internal digital platform, designed to encourage employees to be innovative and creative. So far, 70% of the approved ideas have been implemented. The approved ideas have contributed to 34% more financial savings compared to the first half of 2023. Since 2015, DEWA has received over 63,000 ideas through the platform. Employees’ ideas play a significant role in supporting the innovation and development of DEWA’s services and achieving the highest global competitiveness indicators. These include the lowest electricity Customer Minutes Lost (CML) in the world at just 1.06 minutes per customer annually, 100% availability of electricity and water network services, and 99.99% availability of DEWA’s key digital services.

Rammas, DEWA’s virtual employee supported by ChatGPT, enhances its leadership in exceeding customer expectations

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s utilisation of the latest disruptive technologies, including generative artificial intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT, has promoted DEWA’s excellence in providing a leading value-added experience that enhances stakeholders’ happiness. DEWA offers high-quality and proactive services by understanding customers, accurately identifying their needs, and exceeding their expectations. Since the introduction of Rammas, DEWA’s virtual employee that uses artificial intelligence (AI) in 2017, and using Rammas that is powered by generative AI and supported by ChatGPT, in April 2023, Rammas has handled over 9,6 enquiries since its launch until the end of the first half of 2024. Customer satisfaction with Rammas reached 95% in the first half of this year.
