DEWA breaks its global world record in major inspection outage duration for overhaul of gas turbines and desalination units

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced breaking its world record in major inspection outage duration for the overhaul of gas turbines and desalination units which DEWA recorded in 2019. This new achievement promotes DEWA’s position as a globally leading sustainable model for the overhaul of gas turbines and desalination units. DEWA has reduced the maintenance outages for key inspection operations from 11 days to 9 days, which is a reduction in the maintenance duration of 18%, compared to the previous world record achieved and an 84% decrease compared to 2006. This has helped DEWA achieve 99.51% and 99.83% availability in the summer of 2021 for the E-Class and the F-Class fleet of Gas Turbines (GT), respectively which is one of the highest percentages worldwide.

DEWA’s asset health centre supports its practices for preventive maintenance in water networks

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Asset Health Centre consolidates preventive and proactive maintenance in the water network. This is through gathering and analysing data and providing needed recommendations to enhance the health and life cycle of assets (pumps, engines, pipes, water reservoirs and others). It also forecasts defects using Artificial Intelligence and machine learning algorithms. DEWA uses a wireless vibration and temperature monitoring system to measure the vibration and temperature to assess the equipment condition. This system has helped DEWA save AED 1.617 million since 2019 and until 2021. DEWA also uses Online Real-Time Condition Monitoring to monitor assets round the clock and ensure the provision of supplies according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, accountability and quality.

DEWA launches two advanced platforms to enhance smart grid data security and management

As part of its smart grid programme, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched the Big Data and Analytics platform to integrate smart grid applications, and operational technologies, among others. This enables the processing of large amounts of data and provides fact-based analytics and forecasting for current and future projects. The platform contributes to improving the operations and management of assets and smart meters, thus improving the experience of stakeholders and enhancing their happiness. It also launched the Smart Grid Data Governance platform to ensure compliance with all data policies and procedures. This ensures best practices in accountability, decision-making structure, data management and stewardship. The Smart Grid Data Governance platform manages data as an asset, and defines and approves data strategies, policies, standards, procedures and metrics.
